Heros Journey

"Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls." - Joseph Campbell

HEROS JOURNEY

Campbell theorised all myths & stories, share the structure of a hero’s journey known as the “monomyth.”  This journey enables us to understand the pitfalls and the highs of our own life. See this video for an explanation on these stages: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNPcefZKmZ0

Here's how applying this to your life can offer you comfort & guidance:

  • Perception - By perceiving ourselves as the hero in our story we are taking back the power, we decide our narrative. Whether you are just starting your journey, or you have been on this journey for a long time - where you are on your individual journey does not matter. So please do not compare where you are to someone who set off on their journey years ago. These stages may be avoided, repeated, or shifted depending on the needs of the individual.

  • Expect the unexpected - How many of you have read a story where everything runs smoothly? This story is unlikely to be a story to hook its readers, to be memorable, or enable them to form an emotional connection to their hero.

  • Pack Light - When we go on this hero’s journey be sure to pack light, that means others baggage, does not belong to you. Drop that. Forget the voices of the haters, their opinions of you do not belong to you, you are carrying enough as it is. You do not need to carry someone else’s expectations of you.

  • Obstacles - These trials are meant to test us but we will not be beaten down by them. Perhaps the final villain of your story is the villain within you? – your fears, your doubts, your insecurities. We get back up, we learn new tools, techniques, we gather new followers on our journey and we beat that freakin’ villain like never before.

  •  If you doubt - that you are a hero- let me, tell you this. You have a 100% success rate & you are still here. - if that isn't enough to convince you; think of your ancestors. Who had to meet at the exact moment they did, to form a connection or an encounter, to later bring about the creation of you. A miracle & legacy. So, when pain or troubles come knocking, none of it is bigger than you. You are worthy of all you dream of, perhaps you are in the market for some sidekicks or allies

  • Allies - Remember, a hero never goes through it alone, there is always a community, the support of followers that make their victories possible. How many heroes have conquered their nemesis on their own? Just think about that before you start to judge yourself. It is our ego that says we must go it alone; however, we are social creatures. Do you think Harry Potter would have survived without Hermione? Do you think that Bilbo Baggins would have left the shire without Gandalf’s influence?  sometimes we need the help of others to press onwards. It is not a reflection or a failure of you – you do not have to do this alone.

Lastly, you have a unique skill set, experience, and wisdom that only you possess – because no one has lived your exact life. You are a fluffing hero.  Who knows, maybe one day you could be someone else's Gandalf.

Now that we have established your hero status, go slay & conquer. ❤
